Nostalgia Journal in Sunny Yellow
The Nostalgia collection of patterns, prints, and stationery was inspired by memories of growing up in Lagos State in the 90s, when we still lived in a largely analogue world.
The collection includes four key motifs:
i. Ilarun - a wooden 3-toothed comb traditionally used to part hair for weaving. Young girls of school age would typically go to the open market on Saturdays and Sundays to have their hair woven by older women before school the following week.
ii. Agama - the agama lizard. Native to West Africa, these red-headed lizards are usually found sunbathing on the roof and around the compound, and trying to escape children who are intent on catching them.
iii. Atupa - the kerosene lantern. At night, when power was out, children would gather around the lanterns to play shadow games, eat suya and listen to folktales and stories of their parents' childhood adventures.
iv. Ayo - a traditional game played with seeds and a wooden board with pockets. Before mobile phones and social media, adults and children alike would pass time on hot sunny days by sitting under the shade and playing traditional games like ayo and suwe.
